The newly launched MG Windsor EV in India is a crossover utility vehicle featuring cutting-edge AI-based technology having a 331 km range, ADAS, and an attractive starting price of Rs. 9.99 lakh.
MG Motor has officially launched its much-anticipated electric crossover, the MG Windsor EV, in India. This latest addition to the growing lineup of electric vehicles (EVs) from MG promises to revolutionize the market with its intelligent design, high-tech features, and affordable pricing. Marking its place as a CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle), the Windsor EV draws inspiration from the UK’s iconic Windsor Castle, showcasing the brand’s fusion of tradition and innovation.
Built on MG’s Pure EV platform, the Windsor EV is a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV, which has already seen success in international markets like Indonesia. The vehicle combines style, cutting-edge technology, and a practical electric powertrain to deliver an exceptional driving experience, all at a competitive starting price of Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Let’s dive deeper into the design, features, powertrain, and pricing details of the MG Windsor EV, highlighting why it’s set to make waves in the Indian EV market.
MG Windsor EV Design: Where Style Meets Practicality
The MG Windsor EV stands out with its AeroGlide design, a sleek and modern exterior that seamlessly blends elements from sedans and SUVs. While it carries the bold stance of an SUV, it has a more refined, MPV-like appearance, making it a perfect crossover. Measuring 4,295 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,677 mm in height, the Windsor EV offers ample space for both passengers and cargo, while its 2,700 mm wheelbase ensures a comfortable and roomy cabin, especially for rear-seat passengers.
Key design elements include:
18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels
LED daytime running lights (DRLs)
Vertically stacked LED headlamps and taillights
A flush-fitting door handle system
An illuminated MG logo on the front grille, doubling as the charging inlet
The Infinity View glass roof, which offers an open, airy feel to the cabin
These features not only enhance the vehicle’s aesthetics but also contribute to its aerodynamic efficiency, which in turn optimizes the vehicle’s range.
MG Windsor EV Features: Packed with Smart Technology
The MG Windsor EV shines when it comes to in-cabin technology and features, with over 80 connected features powered by the i-SMART platform. This advanced system brings intelligent connectivity and convenience to drivers, transforming the Windsor into an “intelligent CUV.”
Inside the cabin, you’ll find Knight Black interiors that exude luxury and sophistication. The seats come with a 135-degree multi-step reclining feature, allowing passengers to relax in comfort, while ambient lighting offers 256 color options for a personalized cabin experience. The vehicle is also equipped with a 15.6-inch infotainment screen that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ensuring seamless connectivity for modern-day driving.
Additional features include:
- A digital driver’s display for all essential driving information
- A 9-speaker sound system for premium audio experiences
- Rear AC vents for enhanced passenger comfort
- 60:40 reclining rear seats for flexible cargo space
- For added convenience, the Windsor EV comes with electrically operated tailgate and a large 604-litre boot, making it an excellent choice for families and road trips.
Advanced Smart Features and AI Integration
The i-SMART technology in the MG Windsor EV integrates with artificial intelligence (AI) to offer voice command capabilities, allowing drivers to interact with the vehicle without taking their hands off the wheel. This system supports functions like controlling the infotainment system, navigation, and even opening the sunroof through simple voice commands.
Additionally, the Windsor EV includes a digital Bluetooth key, enabling owners to share access to the vehicle with others via a smartphone, bypassing the need for a physical key. This feature brings a new level of convenience and flexibility to vehicle ownership.
MG Windsor EV Powertrain: Efficiency Meets Performance
Powering the MG Windsor EV is a single permanent magnet synchronous motor mounted on the front axle, delivering 134 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. This ensures a smooth and responsive driving experience, whether navigating city traffic or cruising on the highway.
The vehicle’s 38-kWh lithium ferro-phosphate (LFP) battery provides a range of up to 331 kilometers on a single charge, making it ideal for both daily commuting and long-distance drives. The LFP battery is known for its stability and safety, ensuring durability over time. While the top speed of the vehicle is yet to be disclosed, its powertrain is expected to deliver optimal efficiency, in line with other EVs in the market.
Safety Features: Advanced Protection on Every Drive
Safety is a top priority for MG, and the Windsor EV reflects this with its comprehensive set of safety features. The vehicle comes equipped with a Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), offering assistance in driving functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.
Other safety highlights include:
- Six airbags as standard
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Electronic parking brake with auto-hold
- A 360-degree camera for all-around visibility
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) for enhanced safety on the road
MG Windsor EV Pricing and Ownership Options
MG Windsor EV was launched in India at an introductory price of Rs. 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This aggressive pricing makes the Windsor EV a strong contender in the rapidly growing Indian EV market.
The vehicle is available in three variants — Excite, Exclusive, and Essence — and comes in four striking color options: Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green.
Pre-reservations for the Windsor EV are already underway, with test drives starting on September 26, and official bookings opening on October 3.
MG is also introducing a Battery as a Service (BaaS) program with the Windsor EV, which allows buyers to opt out of upfront battery costs. Instead, users pay Rs. 3.5 per kilometer for battery usage, making electric vehicle ownership even more affordable. First-time owners will benefit from lifetime battery warranty and one year of free public charging via the eHUB by MG app.
Additionally, MG offers a 3-60 month assured buyback plan, ensuring up to 60 percent of the vehicle’s value for a period of 3 years or up to 45,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.
A Promising New Electric CUV
The MG Windsor EV brings together advanced technology, efficient performance, and affordability in an attractive package, making it a strong option for anyone looking to transition to electric mobility. With its intelligent design, innovative features, and competitive pricing, the Windsor EV is set to attract a wide range of buyers, from eco-conscious families to tech-savvy individuals.
