“He was more than just a colleague; he was a friend,” Mahindra wrote. “His career, marked by distinction and dedication, is a testament to his extraordinary capabilities and relentless pursuit of excellence.”Nayyar’s career began in the esteemed Indian Administrative Service (IAS) before he went on to make significant contributions to the World Bank. His leadership was evident early on when he became the inaugural Chairman of the state-owned energy corporation GAIL.

Once he assumed positions like vice chairman of HCL Technologies Limited as well as Managing Director of HCL Corporation Limited, his career trajectory kept rising. Anand Mahindra narrated, “It was from HCL that Vineet, along with two of his close colleagues, ventured to Mahindra British Telecom. We fondly referred to them as the Three Musketeers! They approached MBT (later renamed Tech Mahindra) with a startup mentality, driven by a vision to elevate it to the upper echelons of the Indian IT industry—and that’s precisely what they achieved.
